A New Rhythm to Inspire Your Day

Do you have a daily routine that helps your day? Before jumping into a full calendar, it could be as simple as your coffee and quiet time. I know that’s my favorite time of the day. Or maybe it’s enjoying worship music or a podcast while sitting in the carpool line at school as you drop off your little ones. These are things that become our daily rhythm of life. Of course, life mixes in something new and different occasionally, and we must adjust to change whether we’re prepared for it or not. I confess change is not always easy for me. But even in the change, we can still find a new rhythm to inspire us.

I want to be inspired by change rather than fearing the unknown. How about you?

I didn’t realize that sitting in a different spot on my front porch would change my perspective, but it did. There was a chill in the air, so I moved to where the sunshine was. As I enjoyed the sun’s warmth and looked across the yard, I saw something comforting as I tried to make sense of my feelings swirling in lots of change.

As I looked out at the grass that once was green and watched the yellow leaves on the trees swirling in the breeze, I noticed my summer flowers still in bloom. It was like they were hanging on because they wanted to join in with the changing season, too.

I noticed two seasons in one. It was a beautiful perspective as I realized how much I wanted to see differently. While change can interrupt my daily rhythm, I want to flow through it gracefully. And right there in front of me, two seasons wrapped in one brought a shift toward peace deep within my heart.

Summer flowers and fall leaves, all together in one season.

Has change come in your life, yet you are holding onto what once was? I’ve been there before and can now embrace the memories and look forward to watching what will come. God has new treasures for us as we look beyond what we hold onto. And while we may want to hold onto what we’re used to, all we need to do is hold onto the One who never changes.

“I the LORD do not change.”

Malachi 3:6

While God has created changing seasons, one thing that does not change is God. His character and love for us is constant. Even if we’re not flowing through change as gracefully as we’d like, God’s grace is constantly with us.

Maybe God is inviting us to join in the season of change, even if we’re not quite sure what it will bring.

Or could it be that we’re to surrender our tight grip on a season that is not meant for our now, right now?

Whatever it looks like for you, whether you’re embracing or hesitant about change, may you find yourself gracefully flowing through it. Perhaps the change will inspire a new rhythm for your day that will surprise you with grace along the way.

  1. “Even if we’re not flowing through change as gracefully as we’d like, God’s grace is constantly with us.” I love this whole post, but this one phrase captures such truth. It’s not about us looking good, feeling good, thing we are foing okay…it’s all about God’s goodness sustaining us in every season. Thank you for sharing your gift of insight Melanie! What a blessing!
