There is a lesson in everything, including cleaning out the closet. I did some spring cleaning, trying to minimize the stuff in my house. There’s just something about getting rid of things you don’t need. It’s like fresh air once you make some space. While cleaning the cluttered closet, I’ve reflected on some things. First, having less gives us more space. Secondly, many things are attached to memories representing seasons of our lives that change quickly. We can appreciate the past seasons, but we can also embrace today and be present in the now.
Clutter can be in our closets with many things we don’t use anymore or don’t need. I started with the closet in my home office. The clutter consumed in a small closet engulfed the entire room in minutes. As I sorted through books and so many other things, I was quick to let them go to make more space. Before, I probably would have held on, but now, I see the goodness in letting go.
Having less gives us more space. We don’t always have to fill the room up with something else. I’ve previously done marketing and know that white space is necessary. We can make space so Jesus can fill it.
Make space for the now.
What is your now? Your present may not look as you imagined it would, but is Jesus still teaching you something in the midst? Maybe you miss a season that has moved on, and you long to have those moments in your now. While God may be moving you in a different direction, it can be growing you toward something more.
Grow toward something more.
No matter what our now looks like, we can spend it in the presence of a life-giving God. Be present with Jesus. When we are fully present with Him, He fills every moment with life.
You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 16:11
On the journey with Jesus, He shows us the way, giving us a path of life. He promises us eternal pleasures, but He also offers us space to be present with Him here and now. We find joy when we make space for His presence. Peace comes when we clear out the clutter in our lives. We can celebrate memories when we choose to let go of seasons of the past and embrace the here and now.
Spring cleaning is needed sometimes. Less becomes so much more. That white space gives us a fresh, clear canvas to allow God to design something new. And it’s also a time to allow God to continue doing the great things He is already doing in your here and now.
Be present with Jesus and be present with yourself, too. Let’s make space for what Jesus has for us here and now. We can grow toward something more, not toward more things but more joy and the presence of our Father.
Yes! Focusing on what He has for me today! Letting go can be a great thing. A good reminder!!! π
Just like our closet we need to declutter our minds. We dwell on the past or worry about the future which we canβt do anything about either. God had our path layed out for us before time began. Psalm 139:16, Eph. 1:4-5 . So we stop dwelling on past and not worry about the future but look up and ask OK God what next.
