Defined by Truth

Do you ever find yourself defining yourself based on other relationships in your life? Based on everything around you?

My worth and identity have so often been defined by other people. Good things other than Jesus have become my identity. There are even times when I have simply let a bad day define my identity.

But what I have truly grasped as I have embraced the love of the Father is that I have been defining myself all wrong. My identity is not defined by anything or anyone on this earth.

And your identity is not defined by anything or anyone on this earth.

My identity is defined by my Maker. I have known that for quite some time now. In my mind, I say yes, my identity is in Christ, but I have spent so much time trying to define and change myself to “fit in” and He is saying – I love you just as you! I created you perfectly. Your worth is not defined by this world, any human being, or anything. Your worth is defined in Christ!

We are not defined by what happens in our day.

We are not defined by other people.

We are not defined by our feelings.

We are not defined by our past.

We are not defined by our mistakes.

We are not defined by our careers.

We are not defined by what we have and what we don’t have.

Friends, our identity and worth is defined in Jesus Christ.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

1 John 3:1

We belong to the Father! That is what we are! Daughters and sons of God! Our identity belongs in Christ, not in other people. Our identity belongs in the fullness of His love and grace.

Our hope comes from Him. Our joy comes from Him. Our ability to love comes from Him.

The Father has lavished His love on you. There is no value in defining your worth based on other people, your feelings or how your day goes. But there is great value when you embrace the love that He lavishes on you and allow that to become your identity.

Take hold of that love and see yourself in the eyes of the Father. You are defined by His truth.
