Stepping into summertime may bring a new rhythm for you. Maybe you can catch your breath and find a slower pace, or maybe it is overflowing with activities. I always like a good flow, so full is not always bad. Whatever it looks like, does your rhythm give you space in between? In your season of life, what is your right rhythm?
God designed a rhythm for creation and for us. He created order and designed a rhythm for a week. In the beginning, when God created this place we reside in, He spent the first six days creating, and He said it was good. He also made a day to rest, declaring it holy. Maybe we forget the rest part sometimes?
He created a rhythm of harmony that we can flow in. When I am out of rhythm, I miss seeing God’s majesty. While life circumstances want to pull me toward disorder, the truth of God’s Word brings me back to His majesty.
O LORD, our LORD, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
Psalm 8:1
Before David describes the wonder of the Creator, he acknowledges God, declaring how majestic His name is in all of creation. May our weekly rhythm begin with the One who first set everything in place.
What does your weekly rhythm look like? Is it good for your soul? Are there some things that can go? We should reflect on these things often and reset when we need to.
If you feel a little out of rhythm, go to the One who said it was good. The One who created everything and knows everything desires you to find delight. When God first created man, He put man in the garden. What a beautiful and majestic place to start the journey. The garden was paradise, a place of bliss and delight.
Maybe your week is missing the bliss. I know I can fall into focusing on the one thing I’m not looking forward to what’s on the calendar. Bliss may be missing because of indecision, doubt, grief, or heartbreak. In those moments, I ask the Father God to give me a glimpse of His goodness and wonder. It may be something simple that causes your focus to shift, but it may be just enough to get you back to the right rhythm.
Look up and look within. God created us for light and life. Even if darkness tries to steal your delight, start out like David and say, “O Lord, my Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth.” How majestic are you, Father God, that you delight in me. You’ve made a place for me, and You say it is good. Every day matters, and there is purpose in the rhythm and routines of our days.
So no matter what your week looks like, find a literal garden if you need to, and reset your heart and mind to the right rhythm.
