Jesus arrives at the banquet, and He takes a seat at the table with tax collectors. He sits with the unrighteous. People complained and questioned why He would spend time with sinners. Jesus gathered around that table with perfect love and without judgment.
I’ve been spending some time in the Gospels, and I love how, Jesus, our Savior and best friend, intends to bring His light to the table. When He takes a seat at the table next to the unrighteous, He brings love and forgiveness. He brought truth and love to me, too.
If we have invited Jesus to our table, we are sitting with the best. We are next to the One who will always love us, forgive us, and help us get through the valleys of life. Just as He captured our hearts, He wants to capture the hearts of those still at the banquet who don’t understand His love.
Jesus came to give life. He wasn’t consumed by the rules of the Sabbath or other religious traditions. Rather than being concerned with insults, Jesus was focused on bringing the Kingdom of God to all.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
John 3:17
Jesus didn’t come to judge. He came to make the world whole. He came to make me and you whole. Jesus takes a seat at the table even with those of this world so they can become brand new.
The Gospels are a beautiful picture of how to be like Jesus. As I have spent time there, I can’t help but reflect on my own life. I thank Him for making my heart whole. I also ask myself some tough questions. Do I judge who is at the table? Do I hold fast to what is true rather than listening to what is trending around me?
There is truth at the table with Jesus. He meets everyone there. He’s not looking for perfection. He wants our whole heart.
There’s just something about finding truth and there’s no better place to find truth then at the table with Jesus. If our tables are full, He is there. If our table is empty, He is still there.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20
Jesus wasn’t afraid to sit amongst tax collectors and sinners at the banquet.
And I know He is delighted when we choose to invite Him in where we find truth at the table.
