Giving the One Thing to the One

Is there ever that one thing that sometimes makes you feel defeated or discouraged? That one thing that causes you to lose confidence and worry? That one thing you’re talking to your best friend about again? Maybe there is more than one thing, but what is the one thing that seems to be the dividing culprit in stealing your joy?

Worry. Dread. Overthinking. Perfectionism. Too much. Not enough. Heartbreak. Sickness.

We will encounter that one thing somewhere along the way.

Do you ever feel as if it has blindsided you? Your day is going smoothly until that one thing comes up. And why does the same thing seem to come up again and again? While it may try to unbalance a great day, we know the One we can release it to. The more we surrender, the more we find that one thing fading away.

Even if the “one thing” causes us to stumble, we can regain our balance as we entrust it to Jesus. That one thing doesn’t have to have power over us. The real power is the One within us.

God created our very innermost being and discerns when we go. I don’t know your “one thing,” and you don’t know my “one thing,” but the One who created us knows. The One who is familiar with all our ways knows how to help us through that one thing that is causing us trouble.

I will say that my “one thing” always puts pressure on me. The pressure comes, and I feel as if I can’t breathe. But the One who holds all things together is also the One who is our Rock and who gives us strength when we are feeling the pressure.

And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:17

God holds all things together. In other words, He stands with us when that one thing is crowding our minds. He turns our pressure into peace.

I was talking to Jesus about my “one thing” the other day. If I give my one thing to Jesus, I know He is the One who will deliver words of power and truth.

Rember the One who made you cares for you.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:6-7

He cares. He knows. God understands that one thing that may seem like a thorn. That “one thing” does not make or define us. I know my surrender will open the path to peace as soon as I recognize that thorn. While I know I’ll have to wait for His timing, I can also learn to embrace the peace that always awaits me in surrender. God can take the thorn and replace it with something beautiful.

This is what the LORD says – your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb; I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone spread out the earth by myself.

Isaiah 44:24

Isaiah 44 shows the great I Am displayed as the One and only.

I am the LORD who made all things. He is the only “I” we need. Despite that “one thing” that tries to spin our minds and pressure our hearts, God is the One who has the true power over all things. He created us. He made this entire earth, all by Himself.

The One who can create the whole earth by Himself has the power to take away the weight of our “one thing.”

God will restore and make us strong and steadfast as we give the one thing to the One who cares. I think it is fitting that the chapter ends with “To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen.”

The power isn’t found in that one thing. The power is in the One and only. May we choose to give that “one thing” to God today.
