I will always remember one summer afternoon, I was sitting on the edge of the pool and there was a little girl, probably about seven or eight years old. She had her goggles on and was ready to jump in. But I think this was her first time jumping in because she wouldn’t jump. You could tell she really wanted to. Her dad was in the water encouraging her to be brave. To just jump. He told her countless times, “I am right here. I will catch you.”
Her knees would bend like she was finally was going to take the plunge into the water. But she didn’t. I wanted so badly to say to her, just jump! Your daddy is right there, and he will catch you! But I didn’t because you see, I have never jumped in the deep end. When I was five, I remember running around the pool and I slipped and fell into the deep end. Not knowing how to swim, I remember trying my best to swim to the top of the water before someone jumped in and got me out.
I was really wanting that little girl to jump in and overcome her fear. To jump into the deep, with her father right there to keep her safe.
Our Father has His arms opened wide for us, too. He wants us to trust Him, even in the deep, even in the unknown. He wants to take us to the depths of His presence and rest.
Psalm 42:7
“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.”
When David wrote this psalm, he was in distress. He felt as if the waves were crashing over him. And maybe you have been there. Maybe that’s where you’re at right now. But even in the midst of the waves, we can find rest in Him. Deep calls to deep. In Greek, it means to call, to declare, to invite.
Jesus is inviting us whether it’s to sit on the water’s edge to talk with Him or jump into the deep with full assurance of faith, He will always be right there. He is right here.
And whether you fall or jump, He will catch you.

Deep with Jesus!😍
Thanks, Melanie! This is a great reminder that we can trust our Heavenly Father!
