I found a gem in Scripture today. There’s something about sitting with Jesus. He brings us to a place of peace and hope. It’s also a place you’ll always find a gem to treasure in your heart. Whether we’re mourning a loss, pushing through as we carry burdens, or looking for a spark of joy to energize an ordinary day, hope comes alive in that sacred time with our Savior. No matter what, I’m learning that Jesus knows best, and He will lead us to the best rest.
I’ve been there many times, trying to do everything to make my life fuller and better. We want the best, so we try our best to get to the best. But to get to the best, we only need to be still. To be still with our Savior is to be instilled with the best rest.
The more we are still, is it possible to have more of a knowing? Not so much knowing an answer or outcome, or even what’s best for us to do, but knowing we can rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29
We can rest because Jesus gladly takes the burdens from us. All we have to do is give it all to Him. Rest and know that He will work everything for our good.
I must say, when reading Matthew 11, I have always focused much on verses 28 and 30. But that middle verse struck my heart big time.
Take His yoke. As you release it to Jesus, He carries the burdens. And He carries you.
When we fully surrender and trust Jesus with everything, we have the privilege of learning from Him. As I have let go of my own burdens, I have watched Jesus become the best teacher in my life. Jesus says, “Learn from me.”
In our sorrows, what can we learn from Jesus?
In our times of waiting, what can we learn from Jesus?
Through our mistakes, what can we learn from Jesus?
In our hopes and dreams, what can we learn from Jesus?
Maybe the best thing we can do today is rest.
