Pushing Back Darkness to Hold Onto the Light

You’ve probably noticed the sun is setting earlier now and there’s a chill in the air. I always want to hold onto the light and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine just a little longer. I realize though, that I can embrace the change of every season. Afterall, there is goodness to be found in every season, including the long, short and all those in between. No matter the season, we can push back the darkness to hold onto the light.

So as the days get shorter, rather than focusing on the dark, I embrace the change and turn on the cozy lamps reminding me of the warmth of His love. And I hold onto the colors of the leaves as they display our Creator’s splendor before winter settles in. I even embrace the quiet of a dark morning as the sky holds the stars in place.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

John 12:46

Jesus is the light that diminishes all darkness. There have been seasons on my own journey where darkness has tried to creep in. Whether depression or doubt, it is darkness that I can choose to push out because I know the light that lives within me. The glow of His love always promises hope to the one who believes in Him.

If darkness tries to prevail in your life, remind yourself who you belong to, Jesus, the One who is light. Beyond darkness, there is light and hope. Isn’t it wonderful to have the freedom to push back the darkness? We don’t have to stay in darkness because the light prevails.

In place of darkness, let there be an abundance of light. Placing our trust in Jesus brings forth an abundance of joy and peace that carries the calm in the midst of any storm. Let there be reconciliation in hurts. All this is close to reach if we believe in Jesus.

As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it.

John 12:47

What a powerful statement from Jesus. He is not judging the one who decides to ignore His truth. Jesus is not one to judge but to save. Instead, Jesus is a Savior who does not hold judgment. He carries love.

In the Greek, “save” means: Delivered. Protect. Safe. Made whole. That right there is worth speaking aloud over yourself.

Delivered. Protected. Safe. Made whole.

Through Christ, we have been made whole. We’re safe from the dark. In the midst of darkness, we can find the One who holds truth.

For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

Psalm 36:9

We can’t see anything in the dark. But we have this marvelous light from Christ that allows us to see. Even greater, we have this light that allows us to see with a new perspective, one found deep within each of us.

Darkness tries to keep things hidden while the light of Christ always reveals the truth. Sometimes the truth will reveal our imperfections but what a beautiful process to see truth so we can become whole. The light brings a knowing, a knowing that we are loved and a hope that we can always rely on.

We’re meant to live life in fullness, here and now, full of light. Even as daylight is diminishing as the season changes, we always have this light of Christ to light our path.

    Thank you!

  2. I love the verse John 12:46.
If we truly believe who He is and He lives I’m us… Then we won’t remain in darkness. We have the light of the world! 🙂
I’m not a fan of Halloween but I do fall and pumpkins. This morning I was thinking about how people carve pumpkins. You get all the gooey stuff out and then that light can shine through. Made me think how Jesus shines His light through us if we give Him the room. 🙂
Thanks for sharing sis! Always enjoy reading!

    • I love that about carving out the gooey from pumpkins and then letting the light shine through. Love that!
