Refilling My Cup with Grace

Picture your favorite coffee mug. Or imagine the one you decided not to get at TJ Maxx because you realize you already have so many and don’t need another one, right?

Beyond your favorite coffee mug filled with coffee or hot tea first thing in the morning, what fills your cup? Maybe it’s filled with too much. Perhaps your cup is overflowing with so many demands and obligations rather than overflowing with the peace and joy you are so desperate to find. Or maybe your cup is empty. You feel like you don’t have anything to pour out from your cup. You poured out to everyone around you but didn’t pour into yourself.

Whether your cup is filled with too many expectations or is empty, it doesn’t have to stay that way. There is such hope no matter how you find your cup today. I am learning that sometimes I keep my cup filled with fillers that are unhealthy. Through the incredible love of Jesus, I am pouring out the unhealthy – the negative thoughts and the unrealistic expectations – and refilling my cup with grace.

Today, imagine your cup (you!) filled with grace. Better yet, don’t just imagine it, believe it because Jesus loves you so much that He wants your cup to be overflowing with love, a love so deep that makes you pause to embrace the moment.

What fills your cup?

Goals. Dreams. Family. Friendships. These are the lovely things that may fill your cup. There may also be some unwanted fillers in your cup. Unrealistic expectations. Worries. Fear. Insecurities. Trying to do too much.

I love that Jesus is so willing to meet us at the table and fill our cups with pure goodness. That is what He wants for us and that is what is available to us. When our cups are filled with all the not so good things, it may seem like it’s out of reach. But Jesus, the One living right within you, who knows exactly what’s on your mind, pulls up a chair right next to you and reaches for your cup to fill it up with all the good things He has for you – peace, goodness, joy, love, and so much more.

LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup.

Psalm 16:5

Jesus offers us a cup of hope. We can rest assured that our portion comes from Him and Him alone.

Pour out the unhealthy and fill your cup with Jesus. Allow Him to fill your cup up. He gives refills all day long! That’s what I love about Him. Throughout this day, in the extreme and even the most ordinary of moments, He is right there, filling your cup with love. With peace. With a smile. With a laugh. With a dance.

This world runs at a frantic, non-stop pace. And honestly, we may think that a cup of coffee first thing in the morning will prepare us to try to keep up with that pace. Jesus sets our portion though. He assigns our cup, a cup that is meant to overflow with grace.

He pours out to you what you need for this day. Maybe you need peace. Maybe you need reassurance. Maybe you need to laugh. Forget about trying to set the pace with the world. Rather, grab a comfy spot and settle in with Jesus. Ask Him to fill your cup today. He will and He has just the right portion of love and grace waiting for you to enjoy.

Your cup is ready. Let’s refill our cups with His grace.
