I would say that I am a minimalist. Sometimes too much can, well, be too much. In fact, clutter distracts me and causes me to lose my focus. So much so that I am tempted even now to start spring cleaning. I’ll refrain, though. Maybe you, too?
Clutter in our physical houses can distract some of us. Even more distracting, though, can be the clutter in our very souls. The home of our hearts and minds needs space. When we clear the mess, we make space for hope and rest.
When clutter overwhelms us, it may be time to remodel the rooms of our hearts and minds for simplicity.
If your mind seems messy, there is hope. There was a time when I thought my thoughts of uncertainty and negativity would always be in the same hallways of my mind. Allowing Jesus to renovate my mind has turned those hallways from dark to light.
Jesus is willing to help you with the remodel. He will tear down walls with you. He will build a structure that is strong. He’ll clean up the dust. He’ll even help decorate.
Simplicity brings rest. I am learning that the simple and the ordinary carry meaning and are quite extraordinary. In such a complicated, complex world, I think more of us are embracing the simple.
And friends, I hope you know this blog is where we can declutter our spaces from social media and find rest in the simple yet profound moments of truth. This past week, I found myself caught up in the goodness of the simple joys. This is a place where I want us to share our simple joys. I will always cherish the moments, big and small.
There’s something about pausing to thank Jesus for the simplicity of life. I’ll share some of my simple joys from the week. Here are just a few.
Plans to see friends face-to-face soon. Even though life is busy, we always make space for trips to the mountains or dinner chats. It’s good for our souls.
I found a sound on my sleep app that I love. Nothing better than the sound of crickets. I’m ready for the mountains.
I’m making progress on writing deadlines. Am I finished? No. But am I making progress? Yes.
I made it through January. Was January long for you, too? I jumped in with great anticipation, and it wasn’t entirely as I had in mind, but I can’t help but look at it with grace.
I discovered my Cheerios were heart-shaped. Yes, friends, I really can find joy even in the smallest of things. Those little hearts did make me smile, though, and made me reflect on what Jesus has stirred in my heart about pursuing love.
We are beautiful temples created by God, and our hearts can be a place of joy.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones, And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.
Psalm 32:11
I love how the Hebrew in Psalm 32 defines the heart as the center of everything. It’s the center of love. And it’s Jesus within us that allows us to find grace in simplicity.
When we make space for our Creator to remodel our hearts, we watch clutter diminish and our hearts become upright. Let’s remodel our hearts with simplicity.
I love this reminder to declutter our hearts! Not sure I’ve ever looked at it that way but so needful!
