See the Beauty in the Ordinary

I could feel the overwhelm within. It was slowing building as I went through an ordinary day of life. You know, those days that consist of to-do’s, work, doing laundry, and all the other little things that seemed trivial in the moment? It’s in reptitious days like these that I can become overwhelmed with the ordinary.

I decided to take a moment to go outside to feel the breeze on my face and feel the cool grass beneath my bare feet. At that moment, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me that I could step away from the overwhelm of the ordinary. The extraordinary One is always close at reach.

I had an opportunity to pause and breathe in the beauty right there in front of me. I knew all I had to do was take a deep breath, embrace the warmth of the sunshine, and share my thoughts with Jesus.

Does the ordinary overwhelm you at times? Maybe the ordinary is consumed with a to-do list that seems forever long. Or maybe the ordinary is lacking in adventure. What if, instead of being overwhelmed, we welcome the ordinary? What if we invite Jesus, the extraordinary One, to meet us in the ordinary?

He meets us wherever we’re at, in every moment. Jesus is with us in the celebrations. And He is with us in the mundane.

I am with you always.

Matthew 28:20

Jesus never leaves us. Aren’t you glad that He is with you even on those ordinary days that may not seem to have a lot of meaning? Maybe we don’t see the meaning behind those days because it has become familiar to us.

Sometimes we can get comfortable in the familiarity of things. Other times, we may feel discontent with the familiar. How can we flow in both of these moments?

Ask Jesus to reveal the beauty hidden within those moments. When we live moment by moment with Jesus along the journey with us, He will give us eyes to see, to see beyond what we can see. He gives us eyes to see the beauty within a moment.

If you’re the one constantly moving toward adventure, maybe Jesus will invite you to rest. If you’re content in the comfort of a daily routine, Jesus might nudge you into something adventurous.

And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.

Galatians 6:9

Galatians 6:9 is one on my favorite verses, and I’m delighted to find a new perspective on this verse. In Greek, “doing” is also referred to as “abide.” And I love the meaning of “good.” It’s referred to as “beautiful.” Abide in the beautiful. Ordinary can be beautiful. Friends, let’s not become weary in the ordinary.

Let’s abide beautifully.

What does abide beautifully look like? It will be unique to all of us but one thing is certain – Jesus will make it all beautiful. There is good in the ordinary.

There is good found sitting across the table of a girl who needs someone to believe in her when no one does.

Or taking care of your family, even on the tough days when you don’t feel appreciated.

You can even find simple beauty in a few wild flowers tucked away in the grass.

Embrace every moment. Jesus walks with you in the celebratory times, but He is also there with you in the ordinary moments to help you see beyond what’s familiar. There is beauty in the midst of every ordinary moment.

Moment by moment.

Moments can be the stepping stones to something far greater than we ever imagined. Even the ordinary moments can carry seeds that bring growth. Moments even become memorial stones of the goodness of God.

Don’t miss the beauty in the familiar. It’s easy to maybe always go with what we know. Or forget what’s hidden within the familiarity because we are yearning for something new.

I’m so glad that even when I get overwhelmed with the ordinary, He whispers reassurance to not grow weary. See the beauty in the ordinary.
