Simple Joys

My heart rejoices that it’s springtime! Spring means flowers. And one of my simple joys is flowers! Whether they are wild flowers, fresh flowers, or even the little wild violets sprinkled in the lawn, they simply bring joy to my heart. They are a beautiful reflection of the Creator.

What are your simple joys? Those small things in life (but big to you) that brighten your day?

I truly believe the simple joys that make up moments of our day can be the center of attention rather than the demands of life. As we recognize those simple joys, our gaze turns to peace and hope and the demands of life don’t consume us. Jesus never intended for us to be consumed by the cares of this world. He gives us life that holds joy!

But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.

Psalm 68:3

There are so many things throughout my day that can easily consume my time, but something the Father continually reminds me of are the simple joys He sends my way. I can’t help but notice the simple joys, those moments that fill my heart with joy and give a glimmer of hope. They matter and mean so much. So today, friends, I want us to think about those things that bring joy to our hearts. Let’s recognize and embrace the simple joys.

Here are a few of my simple joys that brighten my day.

Fresh flowers. On Saturday, I bought these fresh flowers for myself. Yes, buy yourself flowers! It adds some spark to your home and heart at the same time. Plus, they make the room smell really good!

Early mornings call for coffee so another simple joy of mine is . . . Dunkin Donuts coffee. Black. No sugar. No creamer. And yes, an unsweet tea, too. Treat yourself, right, friends?

And speaking of mornings, the sunrise is a simple joy of mine. I can’t forget the sunsets, too, of course. And there is so much wonder and joy when I see the stars on a dark, clear night. They spark joy in my heart each and every time.

Another simple joy are those spur of the moment let’s-get-coffee-with-your-best-friend. Sometimes we just need to chat with our best friend and catch up.

A simply joy that brings me rest and peace time and time again is simply sitting on my front porch. It’s a time where I can turn off the demands of the day and talk and reflect with the Father.

And my front porch always includes a dog, another simple joy of mine. 😉

Simple joys are listening to my favorite podcast on a long drive, Out of the Ordinary and my latest one I have discovered, Out of the Dark.

Worship music is a simple joy of mine and I love finding new songs that speak to my heart. Sweet friends send new songs my way that touch my heart time and time again.

The greatest simple joy and I would say this one is an incredible joy is spending time with the Father. As we spend time with Him, all the joy of His love, peace, and treasures begin pouring into the moments of our day.

What are your simple joys? Embrace those simple joys. They matter. They mean something. They bring life. They bring peace. They bring a smile.

The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

Psalm 37:23

We have a loving Father who delights in the details of our lives.

When you buy yourself fresh flowers simply because they make you smile, I believe He smiles, too.

Today, embrace your simple joys!
