The Best Cup Full of Grace

Many of us are mug collectors. There are so many mugs to choose from, and if they speak to us, they may just go home with us. While I have a few mugs, I know some friends have many shelves devoted to them in the kitchen cabinets. If that’s you, I would love to come and see your collection.

Is there one mug that is your absolute favorite? While I have several mugs that I can choose from for my morning coffee, I always reach for the same one.

In our lives filled with routines and change, along with dilemmas and joys, we are filled with the very best to help us navigate life. There is one cup full of grace that is the same One we can reach for every time. It’s the perfect cup.

I grab the same coffee mug for my coffee every morning. While there are a ton of others to choose from, I pour my coffee into my red “Thing One” mug that my twin sister gave to me as a gift. It’s simple, which fits me, and it just makes my coffee taste the best.

Perhaps you’re more spontaneous and choose a different mug from your collection every morning. Maybe the “You’ve Got This” mug aligns perfectly on the day you have to make a big decision. Or maybe you grab the mug covered in dogs because puppies just make you smile. Maybe the mug gifted from a friend is your top pick, the one with your favorite Scripture verse.

And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom He has given us.
Romans 5:5

This verse filled my Spirit as I read my Bible, drinking coffee in my favorite mug. God pours out His abundant love into us. How reassuring to know that no matter what our day holds, God pours out love and grace into us.

Even if our mugs seem imperfect, God pours into our hearts.

As you pour your coffee or hot tea, God pours love. He fills us to overflowing, sprinkling in hope in heartache and joy in the mundane.

When faced with uncertainty, God fills us with boldness, and He pours into us the very thing we need at the perfect time.

There is no need to add anything to our cups because the Holy Spirit will be our barista. He pours wisdom and grace into our hearts. As you feel the warmth of your mug of hot coffee in your hands, may you feel the warmth of the Holy Spirit residing within you.

  1. Beautiful thoughts from a beautiful lady! Thank you Melanie! My favorite cup has the words “Everyday Joy” that reminds me of the joy that Holy Spirit gives me daily!

  2. Our coffee cup can change our attitude. I read a story of a lady who who was grumpy hateful every morning. A friend who had coffee with her often could understand why. One morning she noticed her cup. It had a ugly picture and a negative comment written on it. The friend bought her a cup with a positive bible verse and asked her to trade she did. In a short time her attitude changed from negative to positive and happy.

  3. Oh Melanie! I needed this right now teaching children teaching Sunday school being a mom and Nana a wife! At times it can be overwhelming, and Iā€™m a pastors wife! If the Lord has called me, he will give me the strength you give me hope, this was a good word for me today!!
