So much space is given for us to share life stories, thoughts, and even our opinions on social media. Instagram has been a place of encouragement as I have read quotes and thoughtful words by like-minded writers. It has been a place where I have laughed at all the german shepherd videos. (My phone knows I have a german shepherd pup, so there are dog videos and lots of them). But even with the good, it’s been a space of too much content to contain at times. Anyone else? With all the content, I’ve found myself needing to make less space for social media and make space for the simple and profound truth from Jesus.
We all have words to share. Words of encouragement and words of hope. Words of laughter and words of wonder. We hear and see so much on any given day. And no matter what, we can entrust to make space for truth. And while I hope you’ll keep making this blog a space to find encouraging words, I hope the Father speaks new hopes and truths to you off the screen.
We live in a culture saturated with information, how-to’s, and advice. As someone who writes and edits for my job and just for fun outside of work, too, sometimes all the words can be overwhelming. And sometimes, there is just too much to try to take in. I have felt the overwhelm rise within me this past week. Determined to find the courage to make space for my mind, I quickly realized I didn’t have to carry the overwhelm. I could pause from even all the good, encouraging messages I see on Instagram. Anyone else?
And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.
Psalm 12:6
Despite the imperfections of humanity, the perfection of His Word gives us wisdom. The Father’s words purify. His words refine our minds and give counsel to our hearts. His words create a space for peace and rest. If I go to Jesus with many words or just a few words, He’s always there. I think of Jesus when He would retreat to the mountainside by Himself.
And after He dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.
Matthew 14:23
Those moments on a mountainside alone are a space we all need from time to time. With or without words, we can experience peace. Quiet. Rest. It is those mountainside moments where I can hear more clearly as I retreat away from the noise of this world.
What does it look like for you to go to the mountainside? Maybe it’s slowing down. Or maybe it’s taking some time to be honest with how you feel, just you and Jesus. Perhaps it means letting the tears flow. Maybe it doesn’t include words at all.
I am so glad that when I can’t find the words or when so many words are consuming my min, Jesus always invites me to His sacred mountain. And sometimes, that means disconnecting from some things and connecting with Him.
We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with Him on the sacred mountain.
2 Peter 1:18
Just as Jesus took Peter, John, and James with Him to a mountain to pray, He invites us to experience the Father in the same way.
We need more mountains, right, friends? I want to accept Jesus’ invitation to encounter Him in an entrusted space, a sacred place.
When too many words consume us, we need that entrusted space with Jesus. He calms the noise of this world as we encounter Him on the mountainside.
That mountainside may look different for all of us. Maybe it’s in your closet, your car, in the middle of a field, or next to a river. Perhaps it’s at your kitchen island in the midst of dirty dishes. Know Jesus is at the mountain waiting for you no matter where you find yourself.
Troubled? Go to the mountainside with Jesus.
Don’t have any words? Go to the mountainside with Jesus.
Are you overwhelmed with news and too much information? Go to the mountainside with Jesus.
Want to thank Him for His goodness? Go to the mountainside with Jesus.
Jesus takes us to the Father every single time. That mountain is entrusted space for our hearts and minds.
Amen sis!!! His Word says it all! Gives us all!!!!
Love you!!!
