What’s your all-time favorite tradition? Maybe it’s Fall festivities just around the corner, or maybe it’s your annual beach vacation, which will take some time before it circles back around again. Perhaps you enjoy a ceremony of a traditional wedding or something as simple as your quiet, coffee morning time. We hold onto many traditions and anticipate the new seasons to come while embracing some seasons, hoping they’ll stay.
I was thinking about how traditions shape our lives and how they even bring comfort to us. We know what to expect and often lean toward what is familiar. Traditions are good. Sometimes, on occasion, though, it’s great to get out of the box and try something new. I’ve been trying to do just that, even creating new traditions. And while I love to hold onto some seasons, I’m learning it’s okay to let go.
As the seasons change, may we embrace our favorite traditions, welcome in the new, and embrace the now. In my holding and longing, God reminds me that He created every season for a reason and a great purpose. He created time and space, morning and night.
“And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.”
Genesis 1:14-15
It’s so encouraging to know that God has a reason for marking the seasons in our lives. Just as He has created day and night, He created us to see and to rest. He wants us to delight in our favorite traditions and embrace the moment we’re in now.
In seasons of sorrow, He is there with you.
In seasons of joy, He rejoices with you.
Whatever season you’re in right now, may the Father remind you that He holds you close and He whispers, “You are good.”
As I notice the sun rising a little later in the morning and see the new angles of light gleaming off the floors, I am reminded that my favorite season of summer will fade soon. Soon, the leaves will change, and the sunlight will be shorter, and I rejoice knowing I can embrace the “now” moments and see every season that God created to be good.
“God made two great lights – the light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.”
Genesis 1:16-18
God saw that it was good. It was good to have morning and night. And it’s good for us to flow within the different seasons of life.
Whether you hold onto traditions or long for a new season, may you find God in the middle of your now.
This has been something on my mind lately. I’ve been learning to embrace each season and find what I like about it .. Or at least find something to be thankful about in that season. Whether it’s a earthly season or a season of life!!! 🙂 no reason to complain. I remind myself to embrace a rainy day! I love this Devo sis! God created it all and is in all!
New seasons can be challenging, but with His grace and sojourning travelers we can embrace the change , expanding or redefining boundaries with JOY
