Trust Even When You Cannot See

Several years ago, I decided to change jobs. I was excited about the change, but when I got there, it seemed like challenges were flying from left to right. I questioned and wondered if I had made the right choice. Fast forward a few years later, another door opened. Looking back, I see now what I didn’t see before. I would have backed out if I knew what I would endure once I got there. Sometimes, not knowing is for our good. I know now that my choice was for good, and I’m glad I was brave enough to trust even when I could not see.

Have you ever questioned a decision you made? Do you ever wonder why it takes so long to get where you want to go? Are there times when you’d really like to see the whole picture?

A Scripture in the Gospels has captured my attention more than once this week, and I hope it resonates with you, too.

He also said, “This what the Kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.”

Mark 4:26-27

Only Mark talks about the growing seed in the Gospels, and I find many things encouraging today. We have the Kingdom within us. No matter where we are on this earth or any circumstance that tries to shake us, Christ is within us, fueling our faith and hope to keep us moving forward.

We can scatter some good seeds that will grow with Christ in us. He prompts us in love and is the light that gives us hope and sparkles of light for those around us. There is such power in the seeds that are scattered throughout our journeys. No, we can’t see the seed deep within the soil. But what beauty is there in knowing that it will grow and being okay with not knowing everything?

I think of when I’m in work mode and have to look at the how, why, what, where, and when. Maybe we even do this in other areas of our lives. We ask, how? How am I going to be able to do that?

Why? Why do I have to wait so long?

What? What even was all that about?

Where? Where do I go from here?

When? When will I see the promise?

We’re often prompted with these to help us get where we want to go. While we may need these in some situations, there are times when we can let all of these go.

Whether we’re asleep or awake, tired or fully present, the seed sprouts and grows. How, we don’t know, but it grows. And when we choose to trust even what we cannot see, I believe the seed produces something much bigger and more fruitful than we thought possible.

Trusting the process is not always easy. But when we do, it brings forth things far greater than we can imagine. Trust even when you cannot see.

  1. This precious message was meant for me today. Thank you for sharing your heart and so beautifully reminding us all, that God can move & work. – in the things we cannot see. Looking back we can see his plans and purposes. Thanks for the reminder that He does work all things for our Good if we will rest & just Trust in him.

  2. At my age I have faced many challanges and made many decisions praying they were the right decision some were right some were not. As I look back and be honest God was always in the right decisions not so much in th others. We are all going to make wrong decisions in life we can’t dwell on the wrong ones we move on and trust God in little and big things.

  3. Great word Melanie! Thank you! The seed doesnโ€™t grow outside the ground it is planted in! Maybe God will reveal to you more about the ground it is put into.
