I remember having a diary with a lock on it when I was little. Maybe you had one, too? Mine had a castle design on the front with a pink tassel to hold the key. I don’t remember what I wrote in the pages of that little girl’s diary, but I can picture myself hiding the key so no one could read about my deepest insecurities. That’s the purpose of the diary, after all. To lock it so your deepest thoughts are kept safe. But the truth is, everything within our hearts is safe with Jesus, the keeper of our hearts, giving us space to unlock the truth of our hearts to Him.
The One who created you in the secret place can help you unlock truth as you trust Him with your deepest concerns and longings within your heart. God knows our hearts. He knows the bad and the good. He sees the hidden and brokenness. He cares about the dreams and delights within, too. He calls us brave when we hand him the key and entrust our hearts to Him. We discover freedom when we surrender the locked places of our hearts to Jesus.
We can give our secrets to Jesus. When something is weighing on your heart, Jesus is ready to receive it. He can handle any secret, heartache, fear, or doubt. Honesty unlocks truth that is like fresh air. Honesty brings a splendor of light, dispensing darkness so that we may be free.
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6
We don’t have to keep sin and brokenness locked in our hearts. We find freedom when we release our hidden things to Christ, who already knows. Our honesty removes old narratives so we can find life in a new story. The Father shines light into our hearts, allowing us an opportunity to experience His glory and redemption.
Have a dream locked within your heart that you don’t talk about? You don’t have to share it with the world or even another person. Just share it with Jesus. Entrust your heart to Him. You can always trust Him.
As I meet Him in the secret place with my secrets and longings, He hears me even if I share them in a jumble of words or tears. He hears. He knows. He cares. He is our Creator who fills heaven and earth and the One who fills our hearts. And every time in the secret place, I discover that He begins unlocking the truth, and I know the truth will set me free.
The diary I had as a little girl is long gone, but sometimes I wonder what she wrote in those locked pages. Whatever it was she had written, I do know that she is now redeemed and loved by Jesus.
Is there anything locked within the pages of your heart that Jesus wants you to surrender to Him? Big or small, doubts or dreams, I know He is ready to sit with you in the secret place, just you and Him. May honesty and light lead your heart to trust Him with your story fully.
Beautiful Mel!
Such a great word! Thank you Melanie.❤️
So much beautiful truth here! So grateful to see it penned in ink – black and white on the pages – black and white in its simple but profound meaning. A wonderful share!
Thankful this morning that Jesus knows and sees my heart!
PS I still have my little diary 😉
