There are moments in life when we face news that will try to shake us, and it may be for a moment, but as we look to the One who is in control, we can remind ourselves that we will not lose hope because the One who is hope lives within us. Last week, I received news that I didn’t want to hear. I honestly wasn’t expecting it. I was really hoping for the best but the outcome was not what I imagined. My heart felt crushed in the moment. Maybe you’ve been there, too?
The good news is that we can always find hope in Jesus, even if we don’t see what we hoped for. No matter how crushing bad news can be at times, I am finding in those moments – with Jesus within us – we can still welcome in hope. I am not saying it is easy but we will find peace and reassurance as we welcome in hope.
Sometimes, it’s easier not to think about the bad news, right? I tend to want to get myself busy with other things but these are the very moments when we need to welcome in hope. And to welcome in hope, sometimes we need to sit, reflect, and be still.
The Father reminded me of this simple truth – He never fails. No matter what news comes our way, His promises are true.
He loves us.
He never leaves us.
He will lead us.
He listens.
He is our hope.
Even when the news is not the news we want to hear, Jesus has not failed us. He has not left us. He is right there with us with open arms, ready to embrace us and listen to us as we process the news. He will encourage and lift us up. He will sit with us. He will cry with us. He will be real with us.
I can never know the highs and lows that will make up my day, but I do know that no matter what fills my day, I know who fills my heart. And no matter what an earthly day looks like, I can be filled with hope.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
Hope in Greek in this verse means “confident expectation of good.”
Can we still have a confident expectation of good even when we receive bad news? Yes! Yes, we can because of the One who lives within us! It will not always be easy, but the goodness of God will carry us through.
Not only does the Father fill us with all joy and peace, but He fills us with a hope that abounds and overflows! We can flow and flourish in the joy and peace of our Savior. The Father doesn’t just give us a glimmer of hope. He gives us hope that will overflow.
In every high and low, Jesus is there. Nothing can separate us from His love.
So, while I didn’t receive good news last week, I still have the good news of Jesus that fills my heart, and because of that, I choose to welcome in hope.
