What do you love most about yourself? This question may make you laugh and want to move on to another question. If you’re naturally confident, this may be easy to answer. For others, we may be slower to answer. Out of the blue the other day, I asked myself this question. What do I love about myself?
Middle school memories came to my mind. I don’t know about you, but I’m fine not returning to those days. But for whatever reason, I thought about how I wasn’t the most athletic and was never picked first for dodgeball or volleyball. I didn’t linger there, though. I laughed and thought how grateful I was to have those days behind me. The question stayed with me for days. Flaws and all, what do I love that defines who I am?
I thought I would ask you, too. What do you love most about yourself?
When we receive the love of Christ, that love dwells within us. And if the love dwells within us, we can’t help but become that love.
When I asked myself the other day what I love about myself, I realized I could answer this question so much easier now. Before, I would have laughed and searched for answers, but as I’ve been accepting and growing in who God has created me to be, I know there’s good to recognize. Sure, there are flaws, but the flaws don’t have to be the first thing I see.
“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”
1 John 5:16b
If you live in the love of Christ, you live in God. If you live in God, you live in love. Our Creator is the very essence of love.
Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. When we love ourselves well, we love others well. While the world may get self-love out of balance, self-love from Christ is much more. Self-love that wells up because of the love living within us is far from selfishness. Rather, it’s part of our very being.
What do you love most about yourself?
If it’s not easy to answer, ask the Father. His answers are always sincere and true.
Here are a few of mine . . .
I love that I’m learning and growing in the One who created and designed me. I see more of Him within me rather than focusing on the perceptions of people and this world.
I love that I am quiet. I used to not see this as a quality, but I am learning that quiet is okay.
And I love that I am a dog person because dogs bring smiles on an ordinary day. (I had to throw this one in). They bring the definition of loyalty to life.
I am glad I can embrace where God has brought me from and where He has me right now. Through every season, there is something to lean into that can change my perspective for the better.
This is a question I want to continue reflecting on, and I hope it encourages you to see all the great things about yourself.
You are loved (Romans 5:5) and are chosen by an amazing Creator (John 15:16). What do you love most about how God has uniquely created you?
Wonderful
Mel, I love all of those things about you! You have always been special to me. You may be quiet, but the waters run deep! Your question has intrigued me, and I will be praying into that! Thanks, Mel
P.s. We still need to get together. Call me.
Great question Melanie! I believe age tends to mellow us and we like ourselves so much more than we did as teens. Praise God! We don’t have to go through those stages again. What do I like about me? I’m thankful for my stick-to-it-ness to complete difficult things. I didn’t always have that. Jesus never quit, and He has helped me to not be a quitter either. Thank you for posing this question. We all need to consider it .
Yes! Love this for so many reasons!!!! 😍 I saw a video today …. It’s send esteem related so not spiritual but think it’s so cool that I saw it today for a group zoom session I did… And read this the same day! Love the reminder to love ourselves well so we can love others well …. With The love that’s in us because of Christ! As always, such a powerful encouragement!!!!
Intriguing question for sure. Thanks!!
This was a blessing!
