Simple Joys to Reset Your Mindset

Hey, friends! I have talked about this before but bring it up again. I truly believe when we invest just some extra time, even if it’s only for a few minutes, for simple joys, we find so much more. What are some of your simple joys, those ordinary, small things that bring a spark of joy to your day?

Whenever I take time to enjoy my simple joys, I always seem to gain new insight. Hope abounds. I begin to see that it’s okay to be carefree. And something I’ve learned about my simple joys recently is this – Reset. Yes, reset to refresh your mind and soul.

Treat yourself. We make life way busier than it should be. Sometimes we just need to let go of our busy and take some time for ourselves. I mentioned in a previous post that I was going to visit this topic so here we are, friends. Yes, treat yourself. Even if all you have time for is to grab your favorite tea or coffee, start right there.

I recently did something that I haven’t done in a long time, something so ordinary yet I found it extraordinary at the moment. I went to a bookstore. Yup, just a bookstore. I put it on my calendar and made it happen. I think I had forgotten how much I enjoyed browsing the book titles on a shelf rather than searching online. To set foot into a brick-and-mortar book store brought joy to my heart, a simple joy.

What are some of your simple joys that you can put on your calendar? Block out some time for just you. Yes, you! You deserve it. A time to reset also allows us to better ourselves.

Here is what I learned walking through the bookstore. First of all, it dawned on me that I had not been in that bookstore since I was in high school. That was a long, long time ago. As a teenager, I loved picking out books that would help me get closer to all the dreams stored up in my heart.

Even today, I still have dreams. I am sure you do, too. If our dreams are part of our simple joys, let’s run after them. Make more room for yourself to accomplish your dreams.

Make room. Block out an hour or two on your calendar. Be intentional about it. Maybe add it to your calendar.

Not only did walking through the book store remind me of my teenage dreams and the dreams stored in my heart even today, I realized my simple joys are a great way to reset. Reset my mind. Reset my pace.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:2

I know that all I have to do to reset my thoughts is to simply look to my Savior rather than to the world’s patterns.

Busyness. Busyness is a pattern that has been so entwined in our world that it has become so mainstream. And a lot of our busyness may be things of life that we can’t pull away from. But what if we start out small with an hour or two to enjoy our simple joys? The more we embrace the simple joys, I feel like we are that much closer to freedom. Freedom to reset our minds, to reset our pace, and maybe to simply have some fun and enjoy our simple joys.

Do you know what I also learned on this bookstore journey? Try something new. The new can be refreshing. I have been reading a lot of non-fiction but as I browsed the bookstore, I decided to try fiction. I found the perfect books that have been refreshing my soul.

I can’t forget to mention my other simple joys that made my bookstore day. Hazelnut coffee and some fresh unsweet tea. Sometimes it truly is the smallest of things that can reset joy in me.

I say, let’s try it, friends!

Set out for the simple joys to reset your mindset.
